Stephen Berry is a professional galleried watercolor artist and instructor who lives in Vallejo, California. A lifelong watercolor and art enthusiast, he decided to dedicate himself to the craft as an adult and has since seen great success. His loose and expressive style is enjoyed by his art buyers and admired by students alike.

He loves both the art of watercolor, but also the interpretation of how to use the tools of this craft to your best advantage. After 10 years of blogging and multiple popular in-person workshops he has ventured into online learning with his signature program From Photo to Final Painting.

What is the Curriculum for
From Photo to Final Painting?

From Photo to Final Painting is a 12 week Intensive Watercolor program covering everything you need to know to go from amateur beginner to skilled water colorist.

You'll enjoy bi-weekly intensives on starting on Saturday, February 11th, 2023 from 9AM to 12PM PST. Each week you will be invited to attend a live hour-long paint and Q+A event starting Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 from 4PM - 5PM PST I'm calling "Chillin with Steve" where you'll be welcomed to pre-submit questions about any of your learnings to further integrate our practices!

The 12 Week curriculum allows for every other weekend off to enjoy your free time, spend with family or get some painting in! The curriculum will follow this flow:

Module One:

Composition + Notans
Live tutorial Feb 11th, 2023

After this module you will:
- Know what the Basic 5 Rules of composition are
- Understand Notans and why they are useful
- Be able to choose a photo with potential and to see it's limits
- Be able to improve a photo using basics of composition
- Be able to simplify a photo and solve compositional problems using an ink notan
Module Four:

Mixing Colors + Color is Value
Live tutorial March 25, 2023
After this module you will:
- Be able to navigate the color wheel using mixing lines
- Be able to arrive at specific hue and saturation using the Rubberband Method
- Be able to shift the value of your palette mixture using the Watercolor Clock
- Be able to copy these repeatable color/saturation/value shifts using T-swatches
- Be able to apply color mixtures to real work examples

From Photo to Final Painting has been carefully curated by galleried watercolor artist and instructor Stephen Berry using quality learning principles to ensure your highest level of success! Many students from our first co-hort of the class were amazed in the improvement of their watercolor skills in just 30 days. Imagine your success in 12 weeks!

What if I can't attend a live class?

All classes will be recorded in high quality video and uploaded to your members' area in a timely manner after the class is complete so that you can watch at your convenience. It is not mandatory to attend every class, but it is highly recommended.

The live class schedule is conducted bi-weekly on Saturday mornings (PST) to ensure you have plenty of time to relax and spend with family!

What timezone are the classes conducted in?

Steve lives in sunny Vallejo, California (yes, you can be jealous of the weather!) and as such live classes and evening Chilling with Steve sessions will be conducted in Pacific Standard Time.

Based on the previous co-hort that joined us from all over the globe, the Saturday AM classes fit the most timezones!

Is there a payment plan option?

Absolutely! You can pay in three monthly payments for From Photo to Final Painting and will have the choice to pick either Pay in Full or the Payment Plan during the checkout process.

How will the classes be conducted?

All Saturday AM From Photo to Final Painting live intensives and Chilling with Steve hours will be conducted using the online meeting software Zoom.

You will have the opportunity to pre-submit questions for Steve for the Chilling with Steve hours and be able to unmute yourself and speak during intensives and classes if you choose.

You are encouraged to have your video on, but definitely do not have to!

What is the time commitment for this program?

From Photo to Final Painting is a 12 week program with bi-weekly live Saturday morning intensives. You should expect these 1/2 day intensives to be about 4-5 hours, and a break is provided.

Optionally, you will be invited to attend weekly Chilling with Steve hours to pose any questions about challenges or skills you are integrating from the learnings.

You are encouraged to also set aside some time weekly to watch any of the on-demand videos that support the curriculum and will be located in your members' area.

What skill level should I have to attend this program?

From Photo to Final Painting is intended for Amateur Beginner watercolor artists. You should have basic watercolor skills, but are not required to have advanced knowledge.

Most artists who join this program consider themselves amateur beginners in that they have a knowledge of paper, brushes and a set of basic watercolor paint palette. You likely have been painting subjects either in class or on your own, but feel your skillset or technique could benefit from support, instruction and a new set of tools under your belt.

This program is especially for you if you have struggled to take the knowledge you gained from attending watercolor art classes and translate it into meaningful works about subjects that are important to you in real life.

Steve's curriculum and instruction are the exact tools you need to be an empowered watercolor artist who can create compelling works of art from scenes and photos that are you very own!

Do you have any tools you recommend I must have?

From Photo to Final Painting includes a resource list of Steve's preferred brushes, paper, and watercolor paints so that you can audit your current resources and invest in any you deem necessary to make the most of the class.

This list is provided to you prior to the start of class in your membership area.
